And the beat goes on...
Last year we went to our national Calgm conference in Vegas. Three Catholic theologians spoke at the conference. We came home jazzed that we heard them use language that represented how we feel about our kids, how we feel about same sex attraction. Two of them had just released a book, The Sexual Person. The USCCB just came out with a 20 page explanation of the 'heresy' (my word, not theirs) of their presentation. Bummer. Not that it was unexpected. If you've read my blog, you know we were in deep doo trying to present to the potluck crowd last November, what we had heard. The admin for our group were just not ready for what we shared. And we got spanked on the hand for it.
and yet another line...yet another line.
In Minnesota this week a million dollars worth of DVDs were mailed to each family in the diocese. Sheesh. Imagine how much stew we could have cooked for St. VdPaul soup kitchen with a million bucks.
Oh, and another letter to the editor was published.

We had a priest in Starkville who told brides and grooms that God loved them in the most special way. That He cared for them, and that He wanted them to feel his arms around them. But because we are humans, we need to know how that feels, and so God gave us a spouse. Someone we can connect with, someone who knows us and loves us anyway, someone who would lay down their lives for us.
so, why do we think God would feel anything different for our gay children?

open again...
It has been almost a month since I last posted. There was concern that even though I had coded the kids names, I was revealing too much of their stories. As usual, my first thought was- heck they are in my life, rewriting MY story...but second thoughts prevailed. So, I have gone through and removed whole posts about the kids, and rewritten a few. Sanitized it, I guess you might say. I will continue to mention kids in my posts, but only that they are here. And I will concentrate on other topics.
1st up....
Yesterday we helped out at the Cooper Young Festival. The community center had a dunking booth and I helped out as a street barker "Dunk a (lesbian, mo, queen...etc) Save a life! Just 5 dollars, you know you want to donate!!!" We stayed pretty busy during the time Steve and I were working. At the end of our 2.5 hours, we were properly BAKED (the temps almost hit 100 yesterday) and tired, and a bit hoarse. The festival went on another 5 hours... I'm sure the folks who worked the whole day must be EXHAUSTED. For our part it was a wonderful way to donate time = money!!
Time we have!
Yesterday morning, the day started getting cupcakes finished, and putting together sausage biscuits for both the center and my Ad hoc meeting with the CMGLP board. We are working on making CMGLP more visible, and one of the ways we will do that is at Pride Fest in October. So it was 2 hours at church, then onto the center for a while. (and then home for a nap... WE are old!)
We had an FF board meeting this week, putting the finishing touches on the conference we are planning in October. I'm excited about this conference. It will be the first time our group attempts a national meeting. Most of the folks will be from the Chicago area....but it's a great way to begin. Lorna and George are going to join us from Memphis. Unfortunately, Steve will have to sit this one out. Our 'advocacy budget' is a bit overdrawn, and his company changes hands right around that time, so he has to stay!
And today there is only one youth in our house. I'm going to step away from the keyboard and go cook something, so that when he wakes in a while...there will be a proper Sunday lunch ready.
I'mmmmm baaaaaack.
