11/29/11
Most Reverend Timothy M. Dolan
Archbishop of New York
1011 First Avenue
New York, NY 10022
Dear Archbishop,
"We said the next thing will be we'll be sued if we don't do marriage, we're going to be harassed if we don't do receptions, we're going to be penalized if we don't allow adoption, we're going to be booed if we don't hire these people," Dolan told Arroyo.
“these people” you refer to are my children. “these people” are my son the dedicated music teacher and my FOSTER CHILDREN (discarded by parents who called them ‘those people’) desperately looking for good jobs.
I give up Archbishop. I thought your only interest in this was keeping DOMA intact, but your rhetoric has crossed a line of civility, of caring, of love. REALLY ARCHBISHOP, these people???
I wondered why the bishops could not seem to make a statement on bullying. I guess I have my answer. Whenever we label folks as ‘the other’ we give ammunition to those who would cause them harm.
I regret that when you speak it carries so much weight; it means that those of us in the pew have to do so much more to counter a message of intolerance.
I will continue to pray that you and all in my church who think our children are not deserving of rights have a change of heart. Miracles can happen.
Deb
